SWEATT -- Mary Merrell Sweatt, 92, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away January 31, 2006. Merrell is a former resident of Roswell, moving to the Albuquerque area in 1986. She retired as a school teacher in the 1960s. She also taught music and was an accomplished violinist. She had fond memories of playing with the Dallas Symphony as well as at the Dallas Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in their Ice Room. Merrell enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Von Sweatt in 1987. She is survived by her daughters: Mary Strause and husband, Dennis and Elizabeth Jones; grandchildren: Eric, Jason, and Michelle Langdon, all from Rio Rancho; and her cousin, Ann Merrell of Boerne, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program: 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
