STREIN -- Arthur N. Strein, 83, an Albuquerque resident since 1986, died suddenly Monday, November 21, 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Billie, of Albuquerque; sons, Robert and David of Albuquerque; Gary and wife, Vicki of High Rolls, NM; three grandchildren, Kelly Ledesma and husband, Albert of Las Cruces, Christopher of Seattle, WA, and Collin of High Rolls, NM; sister, Ruth Siekierka and husband, Walter of Scranton, PA; sister-in-law, Audra Swanson of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; mother, Catherine; and sister, Joan. Art was born in Scranton, PA in 1922 and moved to Washington, DC after graduating from Technical High School. He met Billie at the First Congregational Church and they were married on December 10, 1944. Art worked at the Naval Gun Factory during the war. Their oldest son, Robert, was born in Washington, DC before the family moved to Los Alamos in August 1949. Their two other sons, Gary and David, were born in Los Alamos. Art worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory for 34 years and retired in 1983. After retiring, he and Billie moved to Albuquerque. Art loved music and had a nice baritone voice. He played trumpet in the Taylor, PA Drum and Bugle Corps as a young man and sang in the choirs of the First Congregational Church in Washington, DC, United Church of Los Alamos, and Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. He was also a member of the Los Alamos Choral Society and Civic Light Opera. As his sons were growing up, Art was active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little League. After moving to Albuquerque, he volunteered at Project Share, Albuquerque Rescue Mission, and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, photography, dancing, gardening, and talking with just about everybody. He was a kind, caring person - always willing to help neighbors and others when needed. Art and Billie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 2004. He was always a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Art will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Blvd. NE in Albuquerque with Pastor Larry Moss and Pastor Don Wilson officiating.
