MICHAEL -- Arthur Joseph Michael, Sr. Born August 21, 1918, died October 23, 2005, in Santa Fe. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jennie Michael, and his two children, Arthur Joseph Michael, Jr. and Barbara Michael, both of Santa Fe. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Azar and her husband, Frank of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles James Michael; his parents, Kaiser and Freida Michael; his sisters, Jennie, Elizabeth and Evelyn; and his brothers, Robert, Raymond, and Kaiser. Arthur moved his family to Santa Fe in 1954. During his life, Arthur was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Lions, and Elks. He was also a master Mason. He was a talented and successful salesman and manager. He worked for Southwest Distributing Company, Joe G. Maloof and Company, and Save-Way Liquors, owned by his brothers, Robert and Raymond. He treated his customers with the utmost respect and courtesy, and never failed to go the extra mile to serve his customers, those he managed, and his employers. Arthur's greatest accomplishments during his life were his love and dedication to all of his family members, including his in-laws, his honesty and fairness in all his associations, his encouraging words to the young people he met and to all who sought his wisdom and advice, his thirst for growth and knowledge through print and other media, his extraordinary generosity, and his compassion for those suffering or otherwise in need. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the many people who provided personal care for Arthur during his last years of life, most particularly, Naomi Roy and Nellie Nunez. Arthur was lucky to have these two people in his life. They gave him loving, warm, competent, and compassionate service. The family also thanks Jeff Nailen, Arthur's gentle and dedicated personal trainer and Eloise Garduno, who provided Arthur with comforting massage therapy and other tender treatment. Finally, the immediate family wants to acknowledge Jessie Fidel of Santa Fe, Arthur's sister-in-law, who has always been there for the family and was more like a sister than a sister-in-law. They spoke daily by phone and she shared Arthur's joys and sorrows during the past seven years of his wife's progressive illness. She provided housing and care to Arthur and his wife last year when both had to move from their home for an extensive emergency restoration project. Her constant love and devotion to the family throughout the years is appreciated and will always be remembered.
