CRATER -- Nellie Obera Black Crater passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2005 on her 82nd birthday, at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born in the mining town of Dawson, NM. Having spent her early years in Albuquerque, her family moved to southern California where she met and married her husband, Donald Crater, of Pasadena, CA. Mrs. Crater received her B.S. in nursing from Loma Linda University, served as a nurse at the California Institution for Women in Chino and as a public school nurse for the Yucaipa California Public Schools. The Craters moved to Albuquerque in 1980 and Nellie was a nurse in the Albuquerque Public Schools until she retired in 1996. She was active in various ways at Hoffmantown Church and with the Billy Graham organization. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Crater; and her son, David Wayne Crater; as well as by brothers, Harmon Black, Lorin Black; and sister, Hortense Black Dalbey (all of Albuquerque); and by brothers, Leo Black and William Black. She is survived by her brother, Phillip Black of California; her son, Timothy Donald Crater, a pastor in Virginia; and four grandsons-David, Jonathan, Andrew, and Matthew Crater. Mrs. Crater also had two great-granddaughters, Grace and Harper. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel (B100) at Hoffmantown Church on Saturday, October 8, 2005, 11:00 a.m., 8888 Harper Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. A reception will follow in a nearby room.
