LEVY -- Luke Mitchell Levy, 89, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2005 with his family at his bedside. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonia. Luke is survived by his wife, Julia; daughter, Marcia; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters in California; one brother in Panama; many nieces and nephews; other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Luke was born in Jamaica, British West Indies, July 10, 1916. At two years old he moved to Panama with his mother where he lived for over forty years. While in Panama he worked as a Cargo Checker for the Panama Canal Company, where he retired from after thirty-seven years. In Panama he met his wife of fifty eight years, Julia Campbell Levy and had two daughters, Sonia and Marcia. The family migrated to America in 1961 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. In 1988 Luke and Julia moved to Rio Rancho, NM to their present home. Luke was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a skilled tailor and made many lovely outfits for himself and his wife. Luke was an avid baseball fan. His handsome face had a lovely smile. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church for many years and at his departure he was a regular member of The Church of the Incarnation in Rio Rancho. Through his short illness Luke was ministered to and cared for by his church Pastor and Deacons, skilled Hospice workers, and many devoted friend and neighbors. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE in Rio Rancho. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd. in Rio Rancho, at 10:00 a.m. Friday October 7, 2005, with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
