HALL -- James Coplen Hall, 79, of Albuquerque, passed away September 29, 2005, at an Albuquerque hospital. He was born in Estancia on August 14, 1926, to James Joshua and Zell Zora Coplen Hall. He grew up in Estancia and then in Albuquerque, where he graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy, attending Columbia University in New York as part of his training, and received his bachelor of business administration degree from the University of New Mexico in 1948. He managed New Mexico Abstract Co. in Estancia, which his parents had founded in 1921, for 16 years, after which he returned to UNM and received a law degree. His experience in the land-title business helped him become one of the state's most respected real estate attorneys. He was active in civic affairs and a vital member of the Estancia Rotary Club and later the Downtown Albuquerque Optimist Club. He was a devoted member of the Estancia Methodist Church and later the Immanuel and La Mesa Presbyterian churches in Albuquerque. He is survived by his son, James Morrow Hall and fiancee, Judith of Estancia; his daughter, Kim Mathson and husband, Doug of Albuquerque; his daughter, Wendy Chavez and husband, Carly of Rio Rancho; and seven grandchildren: Lt. James Joshua Hall II of Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Anthony Ansotigue, Andrew Mathson, and Anisa Mathson of Albuquerque; and Paul Gallardo, Daniel Gallardo, and Andrea Chavez of Rio Rancho. He was an honorable man and inspired many with his honesty, fairness, and dedication to public service. Although encumbered in recent years by a medical condition that made it difficult for him to walk, he continued to practice law full time until a month before his death, when he said, "I did the best I can as long as I could." Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at La Mesa United Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper, NE, in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation to the relief of those affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita be made in his memory. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
