CRAFT -- HOLLY MATEY CRAFT 1950 - 2005 Holly Matey Craft, of Ithaca, NY died suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2005, while on a cruising vacation in Maine with her husband. Holly was the beloved daughter of Marion and Douglas Matey of Albuquerque and cherished wife of Dr. Harold Craft who recently retired as Cornell University Vice-President with wonderful plans for a happy future for both. Holly received her B.A. degree in Art History from the University of New Mexico where she also served as a Curator Fellow at the Tamarind Institute. She later enrolled in Cornell University's MA/PhD program in the History of Art and Archeology and participated as a field archeologist at the Cornell/Harvard/Berkeley excavation in Sardis, Turkey. Upon her return to Ithaca, she took employment at Cornell where, in time, she met and married Harold Craft. Shortly after, Holly enrolled in the MA program in Environmental Arts and Textile Design at Syracuse University and simultaneously founded Talisman Designs, her business that created art-to-wear garments of unique and extraordinary design. Holly was a graceful, cheerful, optimistic spirit, an adventurous and affectionate person who cared deeply for others. She was extraordinary in her ability to see the bright side and to lift the spirits of those around her. Holly was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Matey. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Harold (Hal) Craft; her parents, Douglas and Marion Matey; brother, Douglas Matey, Jr. and wife, Kathleen; brother, David Matey and wife, Dori; sister-in-law and her spouse, Patti (Craft) and Robert Booraem; step-sons and their spouses, Adam and Susan (Hansen) Craft, and David and Amanda (O'Brien) Craft; four granddaughters, Anna, Karina, Celia, and Helen Craft, in whom she delighted constantly; and all her uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. A Service to celebrate her life was held on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in the Sage Chapel of Cornell University Contributions in memory of Holly may be made to Dr. Orli Etingin, Director of the Iris Cantor Women's Health Center at the Weill Cornell Medical College, 1300 York Avenue, Box 123, New York, NY 10021, care of the Office of Development.
