O'KELLY -- James H. O'Kelly, (Pops) USAF, Ret., 82, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2005 at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 4, 1923, the son of Dewey H. and Dovie Costley O'Kelly in Alabama, but he was raised in Georgia. He served in the US Navy during WW II aboard the carrier USS Swahnee. He joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean War and two tours in the Vietnam War. He moved to Albuquerque in 1960 and was stationed at KAFB 58th Weather Squadron. James retired from the military in 1970. James was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Margaret O'Kelly. He is survived by four children, Gary O'Kelly and wife, Karen of Rio Rancho, Jane Tillen and husband, Bill of Millington, TN, Craig O'Kelly of Farmington, NM, and Tracey O'Kelly and husband Jerry Harris of St. George, UT; five grandchildren, James and Kristine of Rio Rancho, Stuart of Farmington, NM, and David and Kevin of Farmington, NM; several great-grandchildren; and many relatives at home in Georgia. He was loved and cared for by his companion and Angel of eight and a half years, Dolores Rivera, who never left his side during his long battle with cancer.
