WALKER -- Pauline (Polly) Marie Wernicke Walker, born November 7, 1915, in Columbus, OH, passed away early Sunday August 7, 2005, in Albuquerque, supported by loving caregivers, family, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, the Honorable E S Johnny Walker, former Congressman from the State of New Mexico (1965-1969), who died in October, 2000. She is survived by her son, Stephen Michael and his significant other, Gari Fails; her daughter, Janet Mary and her husband, Richard H. Steele; grandsons, John Walker and his wife, Stacey Walker, Andrew Steele, and David Steele; and granddaughter, Amy Holder and her husband, John Holder; and by her great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Otto Frank Wernicke and Anna Marie Dober Wernicke; and by her brother, Karl Wernicke; and her two sisters, Marie Hecker and Elsie Wolz. Before her career as a devoted wife and mother she was an outstanding secretary working in Washington, DC, for her Congressman from Ohio and later the National Archives. In Albuquerque she was on the staff of Clyde Tingley when he was Mayor of Albuquerque. She was a multifaceted person who had many interests which included her husband's political career, her garden, her family, and her cats. She was truly a member of the "Greatest Generation." The family would like to especially thank her caregivers and Presbyterian Hospice staff who cared for her during the last months of her life. Services will be held at Saint Thomas of Canterbury, Episcopal Church, 425 University Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, with the Reverend Carole McGowan Officiating on Thursday, August 11, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. Interment of remains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you honor Polly with donations to The Easter Seal Society, 2819 Richmond Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107, and Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Pl.
