PORTER -- Iva Marie Porter May 11, 1909 to December 20, 2004 At age 95, Iva died in her home in the presence of those who loved and cared for her. Her passing was felt deeply by all those that knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, Allan K. Porter and wife, Beth Soybel Porter; daughter, Sheri D. Porter; brother, William J. Denison and wife, Mary Jane; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Whitney Porter, and her sister and soul mate, M. Muriel Denison. Iva and her sister Muriel came to Albuquerque in 1920 (at age 11 and 10 respectively) with their parents, William H. and Maude Denison, now deceased. Circa 1923, their parents established The Denison's Coffee Co. which operated in Albuquerque until approximately 1955. Iva and Muriel grew up in the Coffee Business and during WWII actually ran the business completely when their father left for California to work in the aircraft industry to more completely support the war effort. Iva's talents expressed themselves in many ways; providing accounting services for small businesses; as an amateur architect; semi-professional building contractor; singer; and, most importantly, she was a dedicated and protective wife and mother. In 1954, Iva at age 45, and her husband, Arthur adopted the first of their two children. Her unbounded love for her children, her family, and all of our friends that dropped in for unexpected lunches and dinners was legendary. Iva was smart, kind, shrewd, witty and she remained a sharp conversationalist always quick to smile and laugh. Iva's ashes will be interred next to Arthur at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
