CONRON -- John Phelan Conron, FAIA-FASID, 83, of Santa Fe, died on June 14, 2005. Conron graduated from Yale University with a degree in architecture in 1948. He practiced architecture in New Mexico for more than fifty years. Active in historic preservation projects, he received the George Clayton Pearl Lifetime Achievement Award on April 9, 2005. Some of his most notable preservation projects include Palace of the Governors and Dorsey Mansion in Colfax County. For three decades, he served as editor for the official publications of the Historical Society of New Mexico and the New Mexico Society of Architects. He was a Fellow in both the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Interior Designers. For many years, Conron owned an interior design business, Centerline, with stores in Santa Fe and Corrales. Until recently, he helped light the fireworks at the annual "Zozobra" burning. Conron was born in Brookline, MA, on December 4, 1921, the son of Carl Edward and Katherine Phelan Conron.
