PETERS -- Jean Peters, age 80, of Albuquerque, NM died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, NY. Born in Jacksonville, IL on April 14, 1925, she was the daughter of Justin and Viola (Brockhouse) Leib. Mrs Peters was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Women's Army Air Corps. She and her husband, Raymond C. Peters were married in 1952. He was career military in the US Air Force and they were stationed in Texas, Maine, Okinawa, and finally Albuquerque, NM. She had been employed as a secretary in Nuclear Safety at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque for 20 years. They travelled to Europe, England, South East Asia, China, and Japan. She was an avid gardener and was a member and officer of the Albuquerque Blue Bells Garden Club. The neighborhood children loved Jean and they hung their basketball hoop in her driveway and gathered there to play. Jean moved to Saranac Lake in January due to her health. She is survived by her twin sister, Janice Fortado, of Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, two nieces: Dianne Fortado and her husband Phil Newton, of Saranac Lake and Della Mae Spaenhower of Manito, IL, and her grand-nieces: Abigail Newton, of Ashland, OR and Elizabeth Newton, of Saranac Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1986, her father Justin Leib, and her mother, Viola Brockhouse Leib. A Memorial Service will be held, Thusrday 10:00 a.m. at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial, Albuquerque, NM.
