WILLIAMS -- Carl Rice Williams, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born Thursday, January 14, 1915 to Hiram Southland Williams and Georgia Frances King Williams, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. In 1925, at age 10, Carl rode a horse and herded other horses as his parents, brothers and sisters traveled in a covered wagon from Albuquerque to Clinton, Oklahoma. Living on their ranch in Clinton, OK, at the age of 15, grade 10, Carl had to quit school and work on the ranch, farming cotton and corn. His parents homesteaded in Mountain Valley and traded that homestead for land in Estancia Valley. On March 10, 1936, Carl married Charleene Dunn. In 1941, Carl and Charleene bought land next to their parents' land where they ranched and farmed, Carl also worked in the San Pedro mine for a year. In the years 1942 through 1945, they milked their cows and cut wood at $10.00 per load to raise their family. In 1953, Carl, Charleene and family joined the First United Methodist Church, there they held many offices including the Questers and Boy Scouts. Carl earned his Builder's Contractor license in 1956 and in 1962 joined the Temple Lodge and became a Master Mason, supported the Boy's and Girl's Ranch and continued to be a rancher and farmer. In 1970, Carl became the Albuquerque City Parks Superintendent. His advice to the younger generation - get an education. He is survived by his children, Delores Jean Williams Broshious and husband, Duane, Donald Ray Williams and wife, Paula and Robert Glen Williams; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Diane Broshious Zarkowski, Debbie Broshious Asbridge, David Broshious, Daniel Broshious, Steve Williams, Susan Williams Davis, Carl Williams and Rob Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Glenn Williams and Wilk Leon Williams; and sister, Fern Williams Dunn. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Charleene on July 18, 1967; parents, Hiram and Georgia Williams; brother, Loyd King Williams; and sister, Opal Williams Bassett. Services will be held on Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. David Okerberg officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carl Williams, Robert Williams Jr., Steve Williams, Daniel Broshious, David Broshious, Bruce Davis and Bob Asbridge. Honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandchildren. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel on Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, 87102 or to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE, 87110.
