SMITH -- Edgar. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Edgar "Ben" Smith will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Central United Methodist Church. Dr. Smith died on Thursday, May 12, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 2, 1932 in Houston, TX, the son of Dr. & Mrs. Burt B. Smith. He attended Rice University and graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his residency in Dermatology at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was on the faculty of the Dermatology Departments at several medical schools and was chairman of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX for 21 years. Ben received many honors in his field, including President of the American Academy of Dermatology. Most recently he was on the faculty of the Department of Dermatology of the University of New Mexico. Ben is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine Newton Smith; daughter, Sheri Dinehart and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Matthew and Timothy Dinehart; daughter, Robin S. Fredrickson; brother, Kenneth Smith and wife, Yoshiko; sister, Mary Beth Fetzer; brother-in-law, Jack McClendon and wife, Lynn; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to the E.
