SMITH -- Edgar Benton Smith ("Ben") died Thursday, May 12, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Ben was born on June 2, 1932 in Houston, TX, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Burt B. Smith. He attended Rice University and graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his residency in Dermatology at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was on the faculty of the Dermatology department at several medical schools and was Chairman of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX for 21 years. Ben received many honors in his field, including past President of the American Academy of Dermatology. Most recently, Ben was on the faculty of the Department of Dermatology of the University of New Mexico. Ben is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine Newton Smith; daughter, Sheri Dinehart and her husband, Scott; grandchildren, Matthew and Timothy Dinehart; daughter, Robin S. Fredrickson; brother, Kenneth Smith and wife, Yoshiko; sister, Mary Beth Fetzer; brother-in-law, Jack McClendon and wife, Lynn; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Memorial Services will be held in Houston at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Monday. Burial will take place in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston. Memorial contributions may be made to the E.
