CHAVEZ -- Tillie Faye (Cleotilde) Chavez, age 84, was born July 31, 1920. A lifelong native New Mexican, she passed away Friday, March 18, 2005. Tillie was the last surviving child of Sofia Gallegos and Ambrosio Chavez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Garcia; her brother, Filiberto; sisters, Angelina C de Baca and Veronica Tenorio; daughters, Theresa Miera, Norma Jean Muriel Lagunas; and stepson, Mark Ipiotis. Tillie is survived by her three daughters, Rose Marie Chavez and husband, Edward, Patricia Martinez and husband, Jess, and Peggy Santiago; sister-in-law, Pauline Prendergast and husband, Dan; step-daughter, Mary Ellen Ipiotis; step-son, Robert Garcia and wife, Bernadette; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Her family will be forever grateful for the loving care that was bestowed upon her by her care giver, Rose Magos; her dear friends, Tillie and Royce Lackey, who visited her every day; Dorothy Norris, who helped us in the evenings and her hospice nurses, Susan Smith and Dana, with Lovelace Hospice. Tillie worked for Dr. Myron Rosenbaum for 18 years, as an x-ray technician, and she also worked for the Bernalillo County Indian Hospital, now the UNM Hospital. While growing up, Tillie worked for Albert Sims Ranch, as did many of the Valley families in the 1930s. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4th and Alameda NW, with a Rosary being recited at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the Church Parish Hall for a reception, at 11:30, immediately following the burial. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW. ABQ. 505-343-8008
