JONES -- Roy Lee "Pinky" Jones, 84, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charline Jones; two children, Janet Sterba of Keswick, VA and Michael Jones of Albuquerque; their spouses, Jeff Sterba and Mary Pat Jones; and five grandchildren, Katy Sterba, Dane Sterba, Brent Jones, Seth Jones, and Megan Hardin. Roy was born in Corsicana, TX on November 14, 1920. He was raised in Pampa, TX and graduated from West Texas State College in Canyon, TX. A WWII Air Force veteran, Roy served in England as a bombardier and flew 31 missions over Germany and France. When he returned from the war he began a career as a coach and educator in Canyon, TX. He later moved to Clovis and then Lovington where he served as high school principal and coach. He left public education while in Lovington to become a banker. He served as the mayor of Lovington and was involved in other civic matters including chairing the Lovington United Fund campaign. He and Charline moved to Ruidoso in 1973 and purchased the High Country Agency, which he operated for many years. He served as Mayor of Ruidoso and Chairman of the Democratic Party of Lincoln County. He was very active in civic, community and church affairs throughout his life, including Chairman of the Ruidoso Hospital Board and served on the board of Presbyterian Healthcare Services. Pinky loved the horses and owned a number of winners in Ruidoso. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, located at 4601 Juan Tabo NE, at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2005. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
