CHAVEZ -- Maria "Benardita" Chavez, age 91, a resident of Belen, NM, joined Our Lord and Savior on February 2, 2005. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Maria Benardita was born in Trementina, NM, on August 21, 1913. Maria Benardita was the loving wife of the late Pablo Chavez. Maria Benardita was a wonderful wife and homemaker. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great -great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Maria Benardita is preceded in death by her daughter, Bertha Lucero; great-grandson, Isaac Chavez; sons-in-law, Robert Chavez and David Romero. She is survived by her children, Elsie Chavez, Don Chavez and his wife, Marylou, Eufemia and her husband, Jay Valdez, Flora and her husband, Gilbert Moya, Eva and her husband, Raymond Barela, David Chavez and his wife, Barbara, Shiela Romero, and Liz and her husband, Perfie Ortiz; 34 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 15 great- great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a viewing from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2005. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Toby Romero, Julian Chavez, Kenneth Barela, Bobby Ortiz, Marvin Duran, John Duran, Chris Gallegos, Sammy Chavez, and Ivan Chavez. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St. Belen.
