LIPTON -- Col. Samuel M. Lipton, Retired U.S. Army, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005. Col. Lipton spent 20 years in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Wyoming and succeeded in getting into the regular Army under the Thompson Act when only 100 in the United States were accepted. Serving his country, along with being an Eagle Scout, were his proudest moments. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and afterwards he did a tour of duty in Europe during the height of the war. During World War II, he married Frances Hinton of Washington, D.C. After returning from Europe, he was sent to the University of Illinois for his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He was stationed in Japan and Germany after the war and eventually came to Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM. He retired in 1962 and spent his last years traveling the world. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Lipton and Debra Burgmeier, both of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Patrick Hutchinson and Sara Burgmeier. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment of Cremains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
