GREENLUND -- Helmer Alphonse Greenlund, born in Korsnas, Finland on February 11, 1922, died on Saturday morning, October 9, 2004 at West Mesa Hospital. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Diane Flynn, her husband Ed and daughter Elizabeth Farlie, her husband Brent and two sons, Morgan and Devin. He was the oldest of five children, and his brothers, Henry and John Greenlund and sisters, Elna Fouquet and Barbara Houle are currently living with their families on the East Coast. Helmer, who went by the name "Al," was fond of saying that he was just an "old sea dog of the black gang" in reference to his happy days as an engine room machinist on the baby aircraft carrier "Correigador." He left the navy and worked for many years as a precision machinist building aircraft engines for Pratt and Whitney. His cremains will be scattered over the ocean by the Neptune Society of California, and all who knew him are asked to raise a toast to him at sunset on Thursday October 14th to say a final bon voyage. We all love and miss you!
