KIRKPATRICK -- Matthew William. Our dear friend, Matthew William Kirkpatrick, 95, lovingly known as "Primo" peacefully passed away on August 14, 2004. Matthew was born on April 10, 1909, in Kansas City Kansas. He was the last of 13 children born to Samuel and Beulah Kirkpatrick. He was the grandson of a slave from a North Carolina plantation. The slaves took the name "Kirkpatrick" from the master of the plantation. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, landing in Okinawa in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Matthew made his way to Albuquerque in 1938, and in 1954 befriended Sosimo Padilla, who not only gave him a job, but more importantly, a family. Sosimo and Matthew called each other Primo from then on. Primo is survived by his sister-in-law, Juanita Kirkpatrick from Kansas City, Kansas; Sosimo and Ruth Padilla, Stuart and Veronica Padilla Prager and son, Aaron Prager; Norman and Phyllis Padilla Owens, and son Adam Sanchez; and John and SuzAnne Padilla and children Matthew Padilla, Maria Padilla, and Karli LaCour, and her son Damion. He is also survived by the wonderful and caring staff at Westwind House, his home for the past five years. Visitations will be at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2004, with a prayer service at 8:30 a.m. A military burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by: Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 Third St. SW 247-4124
