BROWN -- Bernard "Barney" Brown, born in Bernalillo, NM, passed away at the age of 76 on July 19, 2004 as a result of complications from a stroke. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brown; daughters, Kathy Barnum, of Capistrano Beach, CA, Karen Shaffer, of Seattle WA, Kris Brown; brother, Joe Shelby; sister, Louise Spindle, all from Albuquerque; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Born on January 13, 1928, Barney moved to CA in 1944 to work on an airplane assembly line. He worked hard to rise to VP of International Operations for Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. He negotiated franchises around the world, including Russia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Western Europe, and the Caribbean. Barney and Barbara returned to Albuquerque in 1989 when he retired to enjoy golf, model boat building, visiting with friends and family, and eating New Mexican food - red and green! He will be missed deeply by all who knew him, and all who knew him will remember him with a smile in their hearts. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his memory to the "Magic Bus" at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. This program provides free admittance and transportation for our school children to increase their appreciation of art and history of New Mexico.
