SMITH -- John F. Smith, 73, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. John was employed for over 30 years with Zenith Electronics in both Evansville, Indiana and Juarez, Mexico and more recently he was employed with Elite Professional Security Services. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II from 1950 to 1954 on the U.S.S. Windham Bay. While serving, he received the medals of National Defense, United Nations, Korean and China Service and Good Conduct. John was an avid golfer and received awards in 1966, 1968 and 1977 for the Evansville Courier City Championships. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Chris Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Gary Palmer of Brandon, Mississippi, Johnna and Ron Brown of Fenton, Missouri, Jo and Jeff Miller of Burnsville, Minnesota and Kristy and Lee Jay Shepard of Manassas, Virginia; a step daughter, Bobbie Wade Sublett and stepson, Scott Wade and his wife, Ronda, all of Evansville, Indiana; grandsons, John-Austin Smith and Lee Jay Shepard III; granddaughters, Wendy, Jamie, Carrie, Miranda and Caroline; step grandsons, PFC John Joshua Wade, Jason, Joey, David and John; step granddaughters, Amber, Terri and Veronica; great grandsons, Chance and Sam, step great granddaughter, Kara and step great grandsons, Joshua and Jared. Also surviving are sisters, Jo Adcock of California, Doris Russell of Newburgh, Indiana and Peggy Behlebar and Carolyn Remfry, both of Evansville, Indiana, and a brother, Bill Smith of California. John is preceded in death by his parents, Solomon Austin Smith and Matilda May Elderbrook and sisters, Ruby, Barbara and Beverly, and a brother, Solomon Smith, Jr. Services will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2004 at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 First Avenue, Evansville, Indiana with Pastor Bill Bernauer officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville, Indiana.
