MARQUEZ -- Lorenzo "Larry" Antonio Marquez Jr., 63 of Albuquerque and formerly of Santa Rosa, NM died Monday, June 21, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital following an extended illness. Larry was born November 22, 1940 in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Lorenzo A. Marquez Sr. and the former Margarita Baca. Larry attended schools at Santa Rosa, New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM and Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. Following his graduation Larry worked for the NM Department of Motor Vehicles in Santa Fe. For many years Larry owned and operated the Square Deal Grocery Store in Santa Rosa. Larry made his home in Albuquerque for the past 15 years working as a licensed insurance agent; he most recently worked for ING Insurance. Larry was active in the Santa Rosa community where he served on the Santa Rosa School Board for several years, was a volunteer fire fighter, and past member of the Santa Rosa Lions Club; he was also a member of the Board of Regents of Luna Vocational Technical School in Las Vegas and a member of the Board of Regents of NMMI in Roswell. Larry loved to compete in marathon runs across the state and across the country. He also enjoyed hiking, and fishing. He was a loving son, father, brother, and friend. His family will dearly miss him. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo A. Marquez Sr. in 1965 and a sister, Sylvia Ann Marquez in 1991. Survivors include his mother Margaret Marquez of Santa Rosa; three sons Rance Marquez of Idaho; Miguel Marquez of Los Angeles, CA; Santiago Marquez and wife Carla of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter Alicia Marquez of Los Angeles, CA; the mother of his children Tinka Castitoni of Rio Rancho, NM; one brother Richard J. Marquez of Santa Fe, NM; two sisters Patricia Martinez and her husband Edwardo of El Paso, TX; and Lorella Marquez Ritchie and husband Frank of Las Vegas, NM. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2004 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa; Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 24, 2004 with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Santa Rosa, NM. Honorary pallbearers will include Frances Baca, Antonette Baca, Bernice Smith-Fleming, Martin Smith, Ron Nelson, Mike Gallegos, Gilbert Baca, and Boni Baca.
