STELZER -- Milton J. Stelzer, died at his home in Rio Rancho, NM on Sunday, June 13, 2004 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Lynn Roberson Stelzer, their daughter Lisa May and husband Gregory and his granddaughter Allison Lynn May. He is also survived by three siblings; Kathryn Everson and Kenneth Stelzer, both of Stoughton, WI and Lorin Stelzer of Bellingham, WA as well as their spouses. Milt was born on September 2, 1929, the firstborn to Milton F. and Mabel (Fritsch) Stelzer of Bloomer, WI. He was reared in Bloomer until his junior year of High School when the family moved to Stoughton, WI. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955. He completed his higher education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and ended in 1960 when he earned his PH.D. in Entomology. Milt moved to Albuquerque that same year and went to work as a research scientist for the U.S. Forest Service. Following their marriage in 1967, Milt and Lynn lived in Apia, Western Samoa for two years while Milt worked for the United Nations/South Pacific Commission. Their daughter Lisa was born there. In the 1970's, the Stelzers returned to the U.S. and resided in Corvallis, OR where Milt once again worked the next 21 years for the United States Forest Service. He retired in 1986. In 1991, they returned to New Mexico and settled in Rio Rancho. Milt's passion was golf, a game he played from early childhood until his illness kept him off of the golf course. He worked as a Marshal at Santa Ana Golf Course and became a golf rules official in the 1990's. He loved the challenge of learning and enforcing the rules at local tournaments. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary (Sara Rd, at Meadowlark Lane), on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Services under the care of: Vista Verde Mortuary 4310 Sara Rd.
