VAUGHN -- Adele Vaughn attended the University of Massachusetts, graduating from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. She worked for two years with the Federal Housing Authority on the landscape design of Army, Navy, and other housing projects. She later became a consultant for the Greenbrier Farms of Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her sons Carder, Brewster, Roger, wife Beverly and grandchildren Lauren, Holly, Amy and Dane. Mrs. Vaughn moved to Albuquerque from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she served on the Mayor's Advisory Board in Parks and Recreation. In this capacity she was responsible for programs concerning the influx of college students who came there during Spring Vacation. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross and Executive Chairman of Junior Red Cross. Mrs. Vaughn served as Vice President of the Bernalillo County P.T.A. for two years. She served as Board Chairman for three years for the Albuquerque Youth Council, an organization sponsored by the City and Public Schools. She has served on many committees concerned with the welfare of children including the Los Lunas School in Los Lunas, NM. During two summers she worked under a federal grant at the Girls Welfare Home in Albuquerque, directing a tutoring program for youth in confinement. Mrs. Vaughn has been actively concerned with good government, serving and working on the charter Revision for Democratic Party. Mrs. Vaughn was a substitute teacher of eight years standing in secondary math in Albuquerque Public Schools. She also is President of Alfa Enterprises Inc., a business which she took over on the death of her husband. Mrs. Vaughn is well known and liked for her dedication to community improvement and a more meaningful life of all children. She is a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Church, and is a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. She has served on the National Committee for the support of Public Schools from 1965 to 1968. For her work in this area she received an award from Judge Edwin Swope, presiding Juvenile Judge for her contributions to the lives of children in the City of Albuquerque. A Rosary will be held at Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
