OAKES -- Marion M. Oakes, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 26, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wallace Oakes of Albuquerque; daughter, Cheryl Truitt and husband, Keith of Albuquerque; grandsons, Steven and Brian Truitt, both of Albuquerque; sister, Katherine Moffett of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Mae Behrend of Albuquerque, Charlotte Oakes of Redwood, MS and Edna Crawford of Monticello, AR; brothers-in-law, Thomas Oakes and wife, Ann of Redwood, MS and John Oakes and wife, Clara of Vicksburg, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Theodore Oakes on February 18, 1996 and her brother, Robert F. Behrend on September 5, 1984. Mrs. Oakes was born in Marinette, WI. Her parents moved to Albuquerque when she was seven years old and she graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1940. She married Wallace Oakes on April 17, 1943. Mrs. Oakes traveled with him as an Air Force wife. In 1975, they retired back to Albuquerque. She loved to visit the casinos in Laughlin and Las Vegas. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Wednesday, May 28, 2004, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 30, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.
