SCHEER -- Bernice (Bea) H. Scheer, age 94, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2004 in Los Alamos, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; son, John; sister, Nelda and brother Oris. Bea was born in Frazee, Minnesota the daughter of Olaf and Bertha (Munson) Dokken. She married John W. Scheer (Jack) in Kohler, Wisconsin on June 15, 1940. Mrs. Scheer earned her B.A. from the University of Iowa, and was employed as a history teacher in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (1930-1940). Her churches were a vital part of her life; she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Albuquerque and Los Alamos. She was a Honorary Life member of the American Association of University Women, where she served as president of the Albuquerque Branch and the AAUW-New Mexico, coordinated local arrangements for the national AAUW convention held in Albuquerque in 1979. She was also a member of the POE Sisterhood since 1960 and twice served Chapter AN as president. In past years, she was a very active member of the Daughters of the Nile, Yucca Temple. Bea was a Girl Scout Trainer in Chaparral Council for numerous years, charter member of the Museum of Albuquerque and N.M. Representative on the U.S. UNICEF committee (1968-1975). Memorial contributions may be donated to the AAUW-EF, 8601 Cherry Hills Road, Albuquerque, NM 87111 or the POE Sisterhood, 9015 Liberty Drive, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Scheer; niece, Nedra Westwater and husband Norman; nephews: James Westwater and George Scheer and wife Judy and two cousins. Interment will be held on Monday, January 26, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
