MCNEELY -- Barbara Carter McNeely, born April 10, 1922, was called home to our heavenly Father on January 22, 2004 after a long and painful battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. She was preceded in death by daughter Mary Patricia Napolitano. Barbara was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, Browning Business College, Tobe-Coburn School of Merchandising, New York City, and the University of New Mexico with Honors. She was an active member of the Cuisine, Drama, and Poetry Groups of the American Association of University Women. She was also a member of Phi Lambda Theta and the New Mexico Quilters Association. She received many 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons for her quilts at the New Mexico State Fair 1984-1992. During WWII, she enlisted in the WAVES and served as Chief Petty Officer at the U.S. Naval Midshipmen's School, Columbia University NY from 1942-1945. Barbara met Mac at Los Alamos in 1946 where she was employed as Secretary in the Fire Department. In January 1947 after graduation, she was employed as a Buyer for the May Company in Los Angeles until her marriage on December 25, 1949. Barbara was happiest when she was traveling. After Mac retired, they traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada and to many foreign lands as far east as Vienna and Moscow and west as far as Tibet.
