BURR -- Roland E. Burr, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, January 18, 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Burr of Albuquerque; son, Bill Burr of Albuquerque; daughters, Beverly Burmiester and husband, bob of Springfield, IL and Arlene Swan and husband, Steve of West Monroe, LA; sons, Gerry Burr and wife, Cindy of Albuquerque, Randy Burr and wife, Jan of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert Burr and wife, Bernadette of Albuquerque; daughter, Julie Britton and husband, Britt of Collierville, TN. Mr. Burr was born in Ringsted, IA and was raised in Geneva, NE. He graduated from Geneva High School and attended Purdue University. He joined the Navy in August 1940 and was a Pearl Harbor survivor, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery. He was a true hero. Mr. Burr was the president of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He married Rita Burr on August 11, 1945 in Haywood, CA. He retired from the Navy in 1964 and then began a second career with Santa Fe Railroad retiring again after 23 years. After his second retirement, he and Rita traveled the world. Mr. Burr had a love of sports and was a devoted coach, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 22, 2004, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 23, 2004, 12:00 noon at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lomas and Tennessee Blvd. NE, Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Burr, Todd Wells, Jesse Burr, Matthew Burr, Seth Wells, and Nathan Wells. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Thursday, January 22, 2004, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
