ELIAS -- Catherine Louise Harp, January 28, 1912-January 14, 2004. My name is Catherine Louise Harp Elias. I was born January 28, 1912 in Albuquerque, NM to Wardie and Anthony Harp. When I was very young, after my father's sudden death, my mother moved us to Las Vegas, New Mexico. I grew up with my sister, step-sister and step-brother. I graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and went on to receive my teaching certificate from New Mexico Normal. I then taught school in rural northern New Mexico. In 1937, I married Richard Elias. I gave birth to my son, Tony, on August 4, 1938. In 1943, I had another child named Shirley who only survived a week. Then, on October 20, 1945 I gave birth to my daughter Diana Rose. From 1940-1971, my husband and I owned and operated a packaged liquor business, Dick's Liquor Store, in Las Vegas. My beloved husband Dick passed away in July 1967. Four years later in 1971, my daughter Diana and I moved back to Albuquerque. It is here that I have lived the remainder of my life and have shared many wonderful times with my entire family. I was preceded in death by my step-sister, Josephine Maloof, my mother, Wardie Harp Maloof, my step-brother, George O. Maloof, and my sister, Julia Koury. I am survived by son Tony Elias of Roswell, NM; my daughter Diana and her husband, Chuck Schuch; my two precious granddaughters, Dania and Michele Schuch; my dear friend Susie Maes, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as my four legged loyal companions Harlee and Daphne, all of Albuquerque. I was fortunate to have kind and loving caregivers; Barbara Smith and Teresa and Bob Nachman's Visiting Angels, Nancy Salas, Geri Deretchen, Karen Crandall and Barbara Perea. I passed peacefully in my sleep on January 14, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in my name on Saturday, January 17, at 9:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE . In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Place NE, Suite 120, 87110.
