BUSS -- Roberta Buss, nee Hollister, 91, died on January 5, 2004 surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1949. Roberta was born in Rockford, IL on September 11, 1912. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Julius (Rick) Buss; daughter, Sandra Thomassen and her husband, Tim; granddaughter, Tamara Wesol and her husband, Daniel and Patricia and Ashley Tucker all of Albuquerque. Roberta attended the University of Chicago in public health and later received a nursing degree from the University of New Mexico. She worked at hospitals and public health agencies in Detroit, Chicago, New York, St. Louis and Gallup. She moved to Albuquerque in 1949 and later took a position as a public health service nurse. She was one of 18 original school nurses to be hired by the Albuquerque Public Schools in the early 1950s and worked throughout APS, including the mountain areas of Chilili, Tijeras and San Antonito. She retired after 25 years of service. Roberta was a longtime member of the Albuquerque Bible Students and travelled extensively with her husband to attend bible student meetings and conventions throughout the United States and abroad. She was a dedicated Christian who fought the good fight of faith unto the end. She also was an avid environmentalist who supported the Sierra Club and similar causes. She was a person of strong character and integrity and one of the last of the true ladies. Roberta was respected and loved by many people throughout her life. She will remain close to our hearts forever and will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming NE. Elder Tom Moore from Laramie, Wyoming will officiate. Contributions in Roberta's name can be sent to the Bible Students Retirement Center, 1801 NE 201 Avenue, Fairview, Oregon 97024.
