CHAVEZ -- Teddy Chavez, born in Albuquerque, NM on December 31, 1924, passed away on December 27, 2003, also in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Lucinda; his son Larry R. Chavez and wife, Oralia; daughters Diana Irene Becker and husband, John, and Alice B. Simms and husband, John; grandchildren Lori Ann Chavez-Sparks, Deanna Chavez-Sager, Rose Marie Chavez, Shawn, Carley & Jenny Becker and John Brian and Jeffrey Simms; great-grandchildren Amber Sparks, Jessie Keays, and Justin, Zachary, Jarrad and Alora Sager; sisters Angie Bringus and Lucy Tafoya; brother Leo Chavez; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose G. and Sylvestra Chavez, his sister Stella Chavez and two brothers who died in childhood, Richard and Leo. Ted grew up in Belen, NM where he worked in his father's general store until he enlisted in the Army at the start of World War II. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and fought throughout Europe and North Africa until the war's end. After the war he worked at Sandia National Labs where, as a skilled and valuable craftsman, he proudly contributed to many of the important projects at the Lab until his retirement in 1984. Ted loved to travel with Lucy and work in his yard and on his house. He was a meticulous craftsman and incredibly well organized. He took great pride in making useful things out of leftover materials and fixing anything that broke. His family would like to thank Dr. Paul E. Pierce for his kind patience and compassion; the doctors and staff at New Mexico Hematology and Oncology, especially Sylvia, Christine and Bernadette; the staff of Presbyterian Homecare and Hospice, especially, Laura Knight and Deacon Al McLane of The Shrine of St. Bernadette. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas NE, from 5:00 until the recitation of the Rosary begins at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 2, 2003, at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will follow at the National Veterans' Cemetery in Santa Fe. Pallbearers will be John Brian Simms, Jeffrey Simms, Richard Sager, Larry Keays, Shawn Becker and Justin Sager.
