WOODWARD -- Armella "Mel" Woodward, 93, died peacefully Saturday, December 20, 2003 after a long and blessed life. Born in Wisconsin, Mel received her B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin. She met and married the "love of her life" Charles Woodward and moved to Abington, Pennsylvania, where she taught science and lived for over 40 years. She and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1986 where they enjoyed their retirement years with friends and family. Mel was a talented craftswoman, painter, bridge player and enjoyed the symphony. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Edward and Hulda Bonk, brother, Don Bonk and son-in-law, Bruce Pierce. Her survivors include her three children: Barbara Pierce of Albuquerque, Sister Elizabeth Woodward, IHM of Philadelphia, PA and Dr. William Woodward and wife Sandy of Tabernacle, NJ; seven grandchildren: Lisa Spangler and husband Matthew of Rio Rancho, Brian Pierce and wife Diana of Albuquerque, Valerie Jameson and husband Kevin of Rio Rancho, Andrew Pierce and wife Rebecca of Rio Rancho, Kristen, Matthew, and Timothy Woodward of Tabernacle, NJ. "Nannie" had nine great-grandchildren and was awaiting the birth of her tenth great-grandchild, due on Christmas day. Her brother-in-law, Robert Woodward and niece, Jeanne Germeroth of Phoenix, AZ also survive her. The family will miss her presence in their lives very much but wishes to thank her devoted caregivers, Peggy Chavez, Joann Chavez Martinez, Trish Davis and the wonderful CNA's and nurses at the Montebello who gave her such love and care during her final days. Her Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, December 27, 2003, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Bernadette's Catholic Shrine, 1800 Martha NE with her wonderful friend Father William McCarren, Celebrant. Cremation has taken place. The family requests no flowers but would appreciate prayers or a donation to VistaCare Hospice, 5201 Venice Ave, Suite C, Albuquerque, NM 87113, or the IHM Sisters, Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA 19345 who have been such a tremendous support to Mel's family for many years.
