MOORE -- D. Russell Moore, 72, was born November 20, 1931 in Atoka, Oklahoma, and died December 19, 2003 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Cappell Moore; and mother, Minnie Scott DeArmon Moore. Russell attended the University of Oklahoma. As a member of the Oklahoma National Guard, he served on active duty in Korea during the Korean War for one year, the year he referred to as the coldest of his life. He married Norma Gene Hardcastle and moved to Albuquerque in 1954, where he graduated from the University of New Mexico Law School with an LL.B. Upon graduation in 1957, he joined the Keleher & McLeod Law firm, where he enjoyed a distinguished career as an attorney for 45 years. While serving as President of Keleher & McLeod from 1985 through 1995, Russell encouraged the firm to participate in many civic activities. He spearheaded the firm's establishment of the Keleher & McLeod Endowed Professorship at the University of New Mexico Law School, the Keleher & McLeod Distinguished Teacher Scholarship at UNM and the UNM College of Law - Dean's Discretionary Fund. Also, during his service as President of Keleher & McLeod, the law firm purchased and donated to the City of Albuquerque the "Running Horses" sculpture now located at the Albuquerque International Airport. He served as a member of the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners for many years, was listed in the Best Lawyers of America - Commercial Litigator and was a Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers. Russell served on the board of Hogares Inc. and personally sponsored The Russell Moore Computer Camp at Hogares Alternative School. He was a member of the New Mexico Racing Commission during the term of Governor Gary Johnson. Russell was active in each community he called home, including Albuquerque and Alto, New Mexico, and his winter home in Bucerias, Mexico - with special fondness for Hogares and Los Viejos in Albuquerque. He loved his racehorses and the people who populated that industry. Russell gave of himself through his intellect, wit and compassion. He had a full and wonderful life which was the source of many cautionary and humorous tales. The lives he touched were many and he will be missed by his love and companion, Susan Miller; his four footed best friend, Ale; his daughter, Malissa, her husband Jeffrey Herbert, their children, Jacob and Sage; his daughter, Ann, her husband, Rex Jung and children, Mia and Stevan Gutierrez; his daughter, Libby and her husband, Larry Hisel; as well as his sisters, Charlene McCray and Billie June Stephens, their families; and his many friends and colleagues.
