KERSCHER -- James Charles Kerscher, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 after a short bout with cancer. He was born to the late John and Mary Kerscher in Appleton, Wisconsin on December 6, 1939. Jim and his wife moved to Los Lunas in 1995 to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. Jim was an avid private, instrument-rated pilot who regularly flew their small plane throughout New Mexico and the country to satisfy his lifelong love to fly. He even obtained endorsements to operate a floatplane. In his spare time, Jim, a long-time small businessman, obtained his broker's license and opened small real estate office in Los Lunas. Prior to 1995, Jim, along with his wife and son, owned and operated a resort and general store in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. His hard work and dedication to the business was shown in the many friends he made in the community. Along with these businesses, Jim also developed and launched a successful mini-mart in a neighboring community and still had time to learn to fly at a small airport in Columbia, California. Jim joined the Army in 1959 and served in Europe through 1962, when he returned to his birthplace in Wisconsin, where he married, started a family, and worked for the railroad while going to school at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Jim was never short on things to do. After graduation with honors with a degree in Economics, he moved into sales with the railroad and was eventually transferred to California, where family camping trips led him to the mountain resort community of Strawberry in 1977. Jim is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Tom; three granddaughters, Kayla, Julia and Alyssa of Yorba Linda, CA; brother, Robert of Kaukauna, WI; and sister, Ellen Clawson of Fort Myers, FL. His never-ending hard work, humor and quick wit will be missed by all that were lucky enough to meet him. Cremation has taken place and memorial Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:30 p.m., at San Clemente Church of Los Lunas. Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at San Clemente Church of Los Lunas. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Vista Care Sandia Hospice Foundation c/o Vista Care, 5201 Venice NE, Ste A & B, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87113.
