ARNOLD -- Vernon Edds Arnold, 90, passed away early Thursday evening, November 6, 2003 of natural causes. Vernon Arnold was born in Alvin, Texas, on October 18, 1913. In 1938 Vernon joined Animas Lodge No. 1 and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in June 1943. In 1951 he joined Sandia Laboratories as a Chemical Engineer where he worked until his retirement in 1972. Subsequent employment was with the State of New Mexico Scientific Laboratory System and the Environmental Improvement Division. Vernon has been active in Albuquerque Chapter No. 67 Order of the Eastern Star, having served twice as Worthy Patron. He has been a member of the Scottish Rite in Santa Fe, the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Albuquerque and has been active in the Blue Lodge serving as Worshipful Master of Hiram Lodge No. 13 in 1981 during which time he obtained Perpetual Membership. He has been an active church worker and served for 12 years as Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church. In his professional career he was a member of the American Chemical Society, The American Society for Non destructive Testing and served four years as Rocky Mountain District Chairman of American Society for Testing and Materials. He is the holder of two patents, is the author of several technical papers and is listed in "Who's Who in the West. Vernon is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary M. Arnold who works for the Albuquerque Public School System; step-sons, Ron Horne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Robert L. Horne of Albuquerque, New Mexico; step-daughter, Cheryl Warrer of Atlanta, Indiana; his daughters Kay McMullen of Boulder, Colorado, Janice Terry of Palo Alto, California, and Mary Alice Berry of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10, 2003 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Services will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with interment to follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. There will be a reception to follow after interment at First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of: Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE 842-8800
