MONTGOMERY -- Thelma Bell Montgomery, 93, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2003, at 2:00 a.m. Always a lady; gracious, kind, caring, giving, loving: all these qualities are what made her the beautiful person she was. Born in Hagerman, ID in 1910, Thelma was orphaned at age 9, the third oldest of eight siblings. In 1924 after graduating from 8th grade, she moved to Albuquerque and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1928. Thelma has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 69 years, and this is where she met her husband. She was a Deacon, a member of the Mariners and a Girl Scout leader. Thelma was always the room mother at her children’s schools. She spent hours at hospitals and nursing homes visiting and spreading joy with her endless sense of humor. Thelma loved to garden, was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. Even with her busy schedule, her family always came first. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Montgomery; her grandson, Scott and his wife, Lori; great-grandson, Forrest Erickson; and her siblings, Ted, Mary and Loren. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Montgomery and Christine Demijohn and her husband, Joe; son, Raymond Montgomery and Rita Montgomery, grandchildren, Eddie Erickson, Hollie Erickson Roerick, Kara Gibson and husband, Terry, Eugene, Justin, Dustin and Ray Montgomery, Joe Demijohn and Ann Murray; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Christine Roerick and Montgomery Gibson; three siblings, Louise Davis, Ronald Bell and wife, Betty and Marjorie Woody; a cousin, Hazel Haegele; and many nieces and nephews. Be not burdened with undue grief, my life was full, I've savored much, my family, my friends and a loved one's touch. God wants me now, He set me free! Services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2003, at 11:30 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with The Rev. Carl Soderberg and Chaplain Collin Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association New Mexico Chapter, 8100 Mountain Rd. NE, Suite 102, 87110 or to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, c/o Presbyterian Hospice Homecare, PO Box 2666, 87125. Our special thanks to Valle Norte, Manzano del Sol nursing facilities and to Ann Montgomery for all the loving care you have given to Thelma for the past 13 years. Our thanks also to Presbyterian Hospice for being there. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
