NEWELL -- Lillian Sadie Saboe Newell, 78, beloved mother and grandmother, and resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Newell, Sr.; and son, Coleman Newell, Jr. Lillian was a homemaker who raised five children. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Sverre Olsen Saboe and Lilly Kristine Iversen who came to the United States in the early 1900s in search of a better life. Lillian grew up in New York City and raised her five children in East Northport. She relocated with her family to the Southwest in 1991. She loved to spend time with her family, paint, watch "her soaps," and go shopping on Sunday at Target. She lived with her daughter, Julliana, son-in-law John, and her grandchildren Ana, Anders, and Hayley. She was a kind-hearted soul who loved her family, friends, and country dearly. After suffering a stroke in the summer of 2000, one of her favorite phrases became "God Bless America." She would say it whenever something nice happened, like a good dinner, a beautiful sunset, after hearing from one of her many grandchildren, or even upon finding a great sale. She kept her sense of humor until the end and still called everyone "darling," including her doctors. She always had a "little something" in her pocketbook for each of the kids. She is survived by her daughters, Julie and Cheryle; her sons, Robert and Paul; her daughters-in-law Linda and Teresa; and sons-in-law, John and Joe. She has 12 grandchildren, Amy, Jennifer, Ana, Andy, Hayley, Cheryle, Jessica, Amanda, Joseph, Rob, Michael, and Brian; and six great-grandchildren, Ross, Ryan, Tate, Andrew, Liam, and Leif. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in a better place with her beautiful husband and wonderful son. Services will be held in New York during the Christmas holidays so that all of our family can be together. She donated her body to the Medical School at the University of New Mexico. Her cremated remains will be interred with her husband and son at Calverton National Cemetery in Riverhead, New York.
