REYNOLDS -- Irene Barber Reynolds, died Monday, October 6, 2003, after an illness of several months. She was born June 21, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan. Her parents were Charles H. Barber and Una Kingsbury Barber. When Irene was 13 the family moved from Lansing to Nanking, China, where her father was a U.S. Army officer attached to the U.S. Embassy. Her mother taught in the American School in Nanking. After the Communist takeover of China, the family moved to Albuquerque, where Irene graduated from Albuquerque High. She discovered her great love, the earth, at UNM where she majored in geology and mathematics. She was an excellent student, being named to the Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Sigma Gamma Epsilon honorary scholastic fraternities. She went on to earn her master's degree in geology at Columbia University. She worked as a geologist for several companies and became a consulting geologist in Albuquerque in 1965. She was a member of several geologic societies and was an officer of the Albuquerque Geological Society and the New Mexico Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists. She is survived by her husband, Charles B. Reynolds; daughter, Mary Davidson and husband, Charles; granddaughters, Emily and Laurel Davidson, all of Tijeras; sons, Thomas Reynolds of Las Vegas, NV and Douglas Bolich of Santa Fe; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Sanchez; and grandsons, Jordan and Devin Bolich of Santa Fe. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, 3:30 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE.
