NARANJO -- Carlos Naranjo, formerly of Albuquerque, beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor and humanitarian passed away suddenly and went to be with his Lord on September 19, 2003. Born on July 3, 1930 he was the son of the late Simon Naranjo and the late Marcelina (Lena) Limon. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sadie Martinez, and Louise Montoya; brothers, Albert and Ralph Naranjo. Born and raised in Albuquerque he graduated high school from El Rito Normal in northern NM. After high school, he served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Upon returning home, he attended Highlands University obtaining his teaching degree. Carlos then volunteered with the Peace Corps where he worked diligently for two years with the people of the Dominican Republic. He introduced the first ever basketball program and mobile library for the children of the Dominican Republic. Upon his return to the US he taught math and science in Tularosa, NM. Carlos later earned his Masters degree in school administration from Stanford University. He was also a Regional Fellow of the Ford Foundation. In his later years, he taught school in southern California, finally retiring in 1990 as a school principal. Carlos was very active after his retirement and never ceased being a community activist for those less fortunate. He was also an active member of the American Legion and VFW. Carlos devoted his life to working for the betterment of his fellow human beings, both young and old. Carlos had a full life giving wholeheartedly of himself whenever the need arose. He undoubtedly helped many others of which the true extent we many never know. Carlos is survived by his close and loving brother, Henry Limon, Jr.; sister, Irene Flores both of California; brother, Jose Limon; and sister, Christine Limon both of Albuquerque. Also several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members, special thanks to niece, Sharon and husband, Raymond Wright and Irene Flores for giving so generously of their time and energy. Also his many dear and kind friends both in New Mexico and California. We have lost a kind and gentle soul but he has left us with the true meaning of love and charity. He will be greatly missed. Memorial Services are pending at this time.
