Shock -- Dale Eldon Shock, 89 Cliff, NM passed away at his residence Thursday, July 2, 1998. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 6, 1998 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cliff. Reverend David Goble will officiate. Interment will be in Mesa Cemetery in Gila. Mr. Shock was born June 26, 1909 in Syracuse, Indiana. He was the son of Eli Shock and Osee Shock. He was married to Alyce Williamson June 6, 1936 in Hagerman, New Mexico. He is survived by one son Pete Shock and his wife Cindy of Cliff; three daughters, Kay Ann Lewis and her husband Junior of Cliff, Sharon Rooks and her husband Montie of Gila, Linda Nichols and her husband Rex if Silver City; ten grandchildren Sheree Richins, Bobby Lewis, Casey Lewis, Marci Watson, Stewart Rooks, Keven McCauley, Ginger Nichols, Nicole Shock, Brian Shock and Heather Shock; great-grandchildren Cassidy Lewis, Tiffany Lewis, Dylan and Oren Watson, Calvin and Kelsey Rooks and Taylor McCauley; three sisters Irene Ferveda, Pauline White and Betty Ganger and his many nieces and nephew. Mr. Shock was preceded in death by parents, his wife, of sixty-two years, Alyce on June 11, 1998, four brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter Ashley Lewis. Mr. Shock was born on the family farm is Syracuse, Indiana. He was the sixth of nine children born to Eli and Osee Shock. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1927. Dale came to Silver City to attend New Mexico Normal School on an athletic scholarship where he played basketball and football. he was voted the best college player in New Mexico two consecutive seasons. Dale served as player/coach during his senior year and continued as coach the following season. He graduated from NMNS in 1933 and began his teaching career at Cliff High School in 1935. He married Alyce Williamson June 6, 1936. After the birth of daughters Kay Ann and Sharon, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. Upon his return, daughter Linda and son Pete were born. Dale continued his teaching and coaching career at Cliff until his retirement in 1974. He was affectionately known at the"Dean of Coaches" in New Mexico. In 1977, he was inducted into the New Mexico Activities Association Hall of Honor, the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1978 and the WNMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987. Dale was known by his friends, students and colleagues for his integrity, dignity and honesty. Although his accomplishments were many, his true pride and joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and watching sports, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the school. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masons. Pallbearers for Dales service will be his grandsons Bobby, Casey, Stewart, Keven, and Brian, and his great-grandson Dylan. Honorary pallbearers include the many students lives he enriched. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dale & Alyce Shock Scholarship Fund at Nations Bank, 1203 North Hudson, Silver City NM, 88061. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
