Galvin -- Olive P. Galvin, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, died Saturday, October 10, 1998. She is survived by her husband, George, of 37 years, of the family home; sisters, Anna Pope Lindow and her late husband, Arthur of Costa Mesa, CA, Elena Pope Curphey of Belot, OH, Eugenia Pope Manley and her late husband, William of Toledo, OH, and Florence Pope Marshall of Broadview Heights, OH and eight nieces and nephews. She received her Bachelors at Youngstown University, Youngstown, OH and her Masters from Boston University in 1954. She received her EdD at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in 1968. She taught and was also the Dean of Women at Youngstown University, OH and high school in Damascus, OH, Green Valley, PA and Zuni High School in Zuni, NM. Olive served 3 years active duty in World War II and 3 years in Korea. She served in the Marine Corps until retirement in 1971 with rank of Colonel, she was one of the first females to retire with the rank of Colonel. She was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, USMC Reserve Officers Association, Cosmopolitan Woman's Club and Women Marine Association and also a member of St. John's Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held, Tuesday, October 13, 1998, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE with Rev. Charlie Price officiating.
