Chavez -- Martin Chavez (Papa), born May 7, 1927 in Cubero, NM was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 1998 after a long illness. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He married the love of his life, Dulcinea Alderete on November 8, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Natividad Chavez; and his brother, Ruben Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dulcinea; nine children, Lea Gomez, Elijia Robinson, Alejandro (BeBe) Chavez, Johnny Chavez, Martha Salazar, Eric Chavez, Jackie Chavez, Patsy Chavez and Jesse Chavez; sons-in-law, Robbie Robinson, Fred Salazar and Dennis Chavez; daughters-in-law, Angelica Chavez, Monica Chavez and Tam Berkman; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, Frances Serna and husband, Ernesto, Lole Gonzales and husband, Moises, Louisa Martinez and husband, Sammy, Della Maxey and husband, Warren, Maryann Jaramillo and husband, Eloy, Ruby Sena and husband Elato; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those who knew him. Visitations will be held Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin S.W. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Bebe Chavez, Johnny Chavez, Eric Chavez, Robbie Robinson, Fred Salazar and Dennis Chavez. Honorary Casket Bearers will be his grandsons, Gary Gomez, Andrei Gomez, Alejandro Chavez, Martin Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Ruben Chavez, Jose Chavez, Nicolas Gomez, Alex Zavala, Dominic Zavala and Gabriel Zavala.
