West -- Shirley J. West, 57, a resident of Fort Sumner, NM, died Friday, August 14, 1998 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Mrs. West was born October 24, 1940 in Piqua, Ohio to the home of Thomas Keith Etter and the former Frances Edith Woods. She was reared and attended schools at Piqua. She worked for several years at the Franklin County Ohio TB Hospital as an assistant X-Ray Tech. In 1974 she made her home in Albuquerque where she managed Sandia Plaza Apartments. She later moved to Santa Rosa, NM and managed the Travelodge Motel. Shirley made her home in Fort Sumner in 1981 where she worked as a waitress in area restaurants. She married Cecil West on July 7, 1987 at Carlsbad, NM. Shirley was a lifetime member of Rainbow Girls; Piqua Baptist Church; and First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner since 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Cecil West of the home in Fort Sumner, NM; three daughters, Ruth Giegerich and husband, Eric of Albuquerque, Sharlene Iddings of Clovis, NM, Valerie Chesebro and husband, Todd of Fort Worth, TX; a sister, Connie Gitzenger of Vandilia, OH; and six grandchildren, Jeff Giegerich, Robin Giegerich, Donnie Sattler, Tiffany Chesebro, Roger Chesebro and Rebekah Chesebro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 1998 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. G.B. Hisel and Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Bill West, Alan West, David West, Jake West, Todd Chesebro, Eric Giegerich, Mike West, Earl Turnbow, Pow Carter, and Brian Drake. Honorary bearers will include Edward Fikany, Steve Gallegos, Joe Sursa, Bob Addison and all her friends in Fort Sumner. The family prefers memorials to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Assn.; First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, or the Baptist Children Home in Portales, NM.
