Mullins -- Ross Mullins, 75, a New Mexico resident since 1953, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 1998 in his home in Albuquerque. Ross was born on January 15, 1923 in Wood, VA. He was a member of the Company B 343 Infantry of the United States Army from January 1943 to June 1946, where he served as Private First Class. Company B 343 served with the"Blackhawk" Infantry Division of the German-Austrian border when World War II ended in Europe May 8, 1945 V.E. Day Ross then graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 1948. He worked as an electrical engineer for the Public Service Company of New Mexico from June 1953 to June 1984. During that time, he served as Field Engineer from 1953-55; Division Manager in Deming from 1960-68; returning to Albuquerque in 1968 as Vice President until retirement in 1984. During his life, Ross was a member of various civic and social organizations, including Masonic Lodge, president of the Deming Chamber of Commerce, president of the Chaparral Girl Scout Council in Deming, Rotary International, and Central United Methodist Church. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, picture framing, and trading on the stock market. Ross married the former Maribel Pratt of Cedar Rapids, IA on December 19, 1947. Ross and Maribel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family last December in Albuquerque. Ross is survived by his loving wife, Maribel; two daughters, Janet Mullins and husband, Pat Matzner of Phoenix, AZ and Patti Gallegly and husband, Tim of El Paso, TX; his son, Mike Mullins of Midland, TX; his grandchildren, Mike Gaskin and wife, Ann, Cris Gaskin and wife, Kim and Mary and Katie Gallegly, and Stephanie Mullins; sisters, Annis Dale and husband, Charles of Virginia, Grace Allio of Virginia, Zelma Pattillo and husband, Wesley Pat of Alabama and Edith Beverly and husband, Calvin of Ohio; and brothers, Hampton Mullins and wife, Billie of Ohio and Edgar Mullins and wife, Jeanne of Virginia and Charles Mullins and wife, Susie of Ohio. Ross was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed a good game of golf, a strong conversation, a good box of ice cream, a well manicured lawn and garden, and most of all going out of his way to help his family and friends in any and every way possible. Ross always made sure that each family member had enough coffee, toilet paper, and film to last until his next visit. We love you Papaw and will always keep you close to our hearts! Memorial services will be held Saturday, 3:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave NE, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating.
