Shortlidge -- "If you have learned, teach, if you have received, give". This phrase of Maya Angelou, defines how Constance M. Shortlidge, Ph.D., lived her 48 years of life. It was her philosophy of teaching students. Constance died on May 17, 1998 at the University of New Mexico Hospital, Albuquerque, NM after a prolonged illness. She is survived by her son, Chandler, age 15; her parents, Robert E. and Garnett E. Morris of Citrus Heights, CA; and her brothers, Robert D. Morris of San Antonio, TX and Thomas R. Morris of Citrus Heights, CA. Constance received her Doctorate of Philosophy in American Studies in December 1995 from the University of New Mexico. She earned her Bachelor's degree with Honors, and her Masters degree in Photography and Women's Studies from the University of California at Sacramento. Constance taught courses in the UNM American Studies Dept., the Honors College, and at TVI. She worked with the Center for Academic Programs support at the University Library. She was deeply concerned about teaching her students to learn and think for themselves. Many of her students praised her as one of those rare teachers that deeply affected or changed their lives. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m. in the University Chapel.
