Adwell -- J. Tom Adwell, 75, a retired Albuquerque Businessman, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, August 3, 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dee Adwell of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Alice Pilon-Skinner, Ruby Pearce, and Carolyn Pilon, all of Albuquerque, and Helen Pilon of Alhambra, CA; brothers-in-law, Ray Pilon, Leo Pilon, and Harold Pearce Jr., all of Albuquerque; nieces, Valarie Pearce, Carol A. Higdon, Sharon Breech, Jonnie Pearce, and Shelly Breech, all of Albuquerque, and Linda Pilon of Boca Raton, FL; nephews, Steven Michael, Joshua Maddox, James A. Maddox II, Harold Pearce III, Lyle Pilon, Steve Skinner, Ryan and Chris Higdon, all of Albuquerque, David Nuckols of Moriarty, Len Pilon of Holland, MI, and James Pilon of Lake View, CA. Special remembrances are Dr. Russell Schultz, Bill Odins, Michael DeVenzio, Shiv Dass, John Elliott, Eric Bell, Father Charles Brown, Colleen Maloof, Alvin West, John McMahon, Tom Schmitt III, Edward Gabbel, Wayne Kelley, Charles Oliver, Earl Harris, Frank Lerner, David and Willie Chang, and Ken Burris. Mr. Adwell was born in Itasca, TX in 1922. He came to Albuquerque with his family in 1930. Mr. Adwell attended the old Armijo Grade School on Isleta Blvd., and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1940. While attending high school, he worked as an usher at the Kimo Theatre. Soon after graduation, Mr. Adwell went to work at Electric Supply Co. He stayed there for 22 years, leaving in 1960 to become Vice-President and Managing Officer at Sandia Savings & Loan. From January 1942 to March 1945, Mr. Adwell served in the Army Air Force, and was stationed at Kirtland Field, Peterson Field in Colorado Springs, CO, as well as the 8th Air Force in Okinawa. Mr. Adwell was also a Vice-President at Security Federal Savings & Loan for a short time before moving on to work as a traveling Auditor for Bank of America, Finance America Division, until he found it necessary to quit and help manage and operate The Empress Shop together with his wife, Dee. They sold The Empress Shop and retired in 1980. After recovering from strokes, Mr. Adwell took a retirement job with E.F. Hutton as Administrative Assistant to Bill Cates. Mr. Adwell was a Life Member of the Elks Club. He was also a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church on Wyoming Blvd. Mr. Adwell was the last of his family, having been preceded in death by his father, Jesse; his mother, Mary Tom in 1958; his oldest sister, Nola Konkel in 1988; his sister, Alma Michael in 1991; and his brother, Audie, also in 1991, in Oklahoma City, OK. Private services will be held with the family's longtime friend and priest, Fr. Paul Baca, officiating. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
