Chavez -- Mr. Fidel Gabaldon Chavez, Sr., 83, of Torreon, NM, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 17, 1998. He was born May 18, 1915 in Torreon to Salvador and Senida Gabaldon Chavez. Mr. Chavez was a life long resident of Torreon, he was a member of St. Antonio Catholic Church. He was a disabled WW II veteran, he served in the United States Army and Army Air Corps in Germany and France, where he was wounded. He married Lourdes Chavez, June 18, 1938 in Torreon, NM, she survives him of the home. He is also survived by sons, Richard Chavez and wife, Socorro, Leon Chavez and wife, Imelda, Tercio Chavez and wife, Sandi, Leroy Chavez and wife, Irene, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Maxine, Fidel Chavez, Jr. and wife, Diane and George Chavez and wife, Rita; daughters, Concha Candelaria and husband, Leroy, Rosemary Chavez and Angela Valenzuela and husband, Jose; brothers, Juan and Gabriel Chavez; sister, Rafilita Vigil; twenty-four grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Natividad Chavez, brothers and sisters, Catalina, Antonia, Eloy and Ricardo. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 19, 1998 at St. Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon, NM with Deacon Juan Lucero officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Richard Olona officiating. Joe and Tony Chavez are serving as Ushers. Burial will follow in the Torreon Cemetery with Military Honors. Ricky Chavez, Lee Chavez, Ted Chavez, Joe Chavez, Adam Gomez, Mosies Chavez, Antonio Chavez and Nathan Chavez will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Chavez, Sam Vigil, James Lopez, Salvado Chavez, Ismael Gallegos and Gabriel Chavez, Jr. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, (847-2331).
