Wilson -- Archer M. Wilson, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, December 12, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Reid Smith Wilson; daughter, Joan Witsil and husband, Jerold of Belle Mead, NJ; two grandchildren, Michael Archer Witsil and Melissa H. Witsil; step-daughter, Shirley Kerns and husband, Douglas; step-son, Larry T. Smith and wife, Alice; four step-grandchildren, Daniel Kerns, Debi Tunnell, Jason Smith and Paige Smith; and three step-great-grandchildren, Desiree Tunnel, Reid Tunnell, and Justin Kerns. He is also survived by a very close friend, Col. (Ret.) Edward G. Anderson, with whom he shared a brother-like friendship. Mr. Wilson received his engineering education at Rutgers University and, except for nine years as an engineer in private industry and the U.S. Air Force, he spent his entire working career as a civilian engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He started work in 1939 as a Topographic Draftsman and retired in 1972 as the Chief Topographic Engineer, U.S. Army Engineer Topographic Command. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1978 and have been active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, including two years a president of Albuquerque Chapter 80 and two years as Legislative Vice President of New Mexico Federation of Chapters, NARFE. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Myron White officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the wonderful Lovelace Hospice, 5155 Jefferson St. NE 87109.
